Arunachal Pradesh Adventure

India, paradise for adventure lovers, where every
part has more than something for enjoying adventure vacations.
With its numerous turbulent streams, Arunachal Pradesh has roaring
rivers, deep gorges, lofty mountains, snow-clad peaks, thousands of species
of flora and fauna and an endless variation of scenic beauty. With different
kinds of agro-climatic zones, terrain and forests, numerous rivers,
Arunachal has vast potential for offering various attractions to the
tourists like river rafting, angling, hiking, trekking, mountaineering, hang
gliding, snow skiing etc.
Angling
The Siang and its tributaries abound in aquatic life. Mahsheer is common. Catches of 20-30 kgs are common and 100 Kg is not unknown. Golden trout is found in the cold water of higher reaches. Angling festival will be organized at Bodak, at the junction of the rivers Siang and Yamne. The other popular angling site is at Boleng.
River Rafting
The river cascades from the high mountains to the foothills in a series of rapids. The entire stretch from Gelling, at the McMohan line to Pasighat is suitable for rafting. The adventurous may organize a rafting expedition covering the entire course of the river in Arunachal Pradesh. The less die hards may enjoy a shorter rafting trip from Reneging in which Grade 2 and 3 rapids provide adequate thrill but less risk.
Trekking and Forest Walks
Treks in the lower reaches of Siang provide breathtaking views of the river and journeys through orange orchards in bloom. Tourists can cross traditional cane suspension bridges across raging torrents. These masterpieces of engineering look fragile but are safe. Crossing a foaming river by a swinging bridge perched high can be a breathtaking experience. Bird watchers can identify rare birds on the way. End the trek in a tribal village where a welcome of Ponung dance and the delicious rice beer " Apong" awaits you.
The best trekking season in Arunachal Pradesh is from October to February. The most interesting as well as challenging trek in this region is around Tawang Chu. This trek starts from Jong, the bus-head in between Se- la and Tawang. From Jong to Mago, the trek route passes through a wonderful jungle studded with magnificent waterfalls.
